Paint Color Combinations

Want some tips on choosing paint color combinations? Everyone knows that if everything in a home were a single color, life would be boring. However, we also know that there are some colors that simply do not look good together in any form or fashion. Therefore, it is important to follow certain rules when choosing paint color combinations in a home.

The most basic combination that one can choose is any color with white trim. White holds the unique distinction of being a color that matches every other color imaginable, including black. But, most people like to be a bit more creative with their paint color combinations than this.

This is why it is important to have some understanding of how colors relate to one another. If one were to look at a color wheel, he/she would see that there are three primary colors; red, yellow, and blue. In addition, there are three secondary colors that can be obtained by mixing two of the primary colors. These are orange (red and yellow), green (blue and yellow), and violet (red and blue).

Then, there are thousands of tertiary colors that can be created using different combinations of the colors already mentioned. Colors that are situated directly opposite one another on the color wheel are called complimentary colors. Complimentary colors can be used to create a color scheme for any room in the home.

Another option if one does not want to use such extreme paint color combinations is choose one color and use two or more different tints or shades of that color to make up paint color combinations. For example one could use two different shades of blue to paint a nursery for a baby boy. People commonly use combinations of brown or tan to create neutral shades for a living room when the theme of the room is going to be earth tones.

This is another consideration that will affect the paint color combinations one considers for a room. The colors of the furnishings and wall hangings that one plans to place in a room will have a direct impact on the color scheme that will look good. Failure to allow for this could lead to colors that clash and ruin the harmony that should exist within each space.

A lot of thought should go into choosing the paint color combinations for any given room. In order to create a harmonious environment that invites one to remain, it is important to follow a few simple rules for coordinating the colors.

I really like this article about paint color combinations a lot! My personal favorite is to use shades of the same color. I think shades of brown make a very earthy look and have a room painted like that.
