Living With Your Living Room Colors

The choices you make for your living room colors are important; it is not just putting a coat of paint on the wall or hanging a wallpaper border.

It's about making your living room look its best. Your colors express your style and your taste. If used properly, they can make a room seem bigger or smaller (depending on the look you're going for) or if used incorrectly, they can hide architectural details and fail to showcase the advantages.

The colors in your living room should be representative of your style, but also aid the room where it needs it.

Below, we will explain just how you can do this and pick living room colors that work.

One: choose colors that highlight the room. Your living room colors should not simply be what you like. Yes, you may be a fan of yellow but it may not work in the room you have.

You need to, instead, decide what would best bring out the highlights of your living room. If you have a large space and want to make it seem cozier, you should go with darker colors (reds, purples, etc.). This will make the room seem smaller and more intimate.

If you're seeking to create a larger space, however, those colors will fail and, instead, make the room smaller than what it is. Lighter tones (yellows, pale greens, etc.) make an area bigger.

Two: make your colors match. You might like the way different shades look in your room and you can't decide which to use--so, you put them together.

This doesn't always work. Your living room colors can have contrast but you don't need to make it jarring. Just because you have themes of orange and pink throughout the rest of your house doesn't mean that they would work for your living room. Contrasting colors can provide new depth and appeal, but they can also be jarring. Choose shades that go together.

Three: use colors that fit your style. Your living room colors have to do more than match themselves; they have to match your furniture and style. If you have victorian furnishings, then having a lightly painted room will not work.

Or, if you have contemporary furnishings and you decide to go with a country styled border, this won't work either. Instead, your living room colors must match the look of your home.

Also, you need to choose colors that bring out the best in your furniture. If you are using light stains and brighter patterns, then a dark background may seem odd. You want your living room colors to flow with the surroundings, not seem like separate areas.

With these suggestions in mind, you will be able to create a living room that is complete and stylish. There will be no nagging aftereffects and your guests will be able to admire the room as a whole, not wonder about your decisions.

Your living room colors play a vital role in how your room is perceived so you need to make every shade count.
