Paint Colors For Living Room

by HDME Staff

Several factors go into choosing paint colors for living room walls. What mood does one want to establish with the color choices? How open or cozy does one want the room to be? Does one need to match the existing furniture? All of these questions must be answered in order to choose the right paint colors for living room decorating.

It is a proven fact that colors affect people's moods. Some colors are considered to be more energizing while others are more relaxing. Still others are neutral. This is why it is important to consider what mood one wants to inspire in the living room when choosing paint colors for living room walls.

Another major factor is the amount of space one has versus the amount of space one wants to be perceived. This may sound foreboding, but the concept is really quite simple. Lighter shades tend to make a room appear more open and spacious while darker tints pull the walls in and make the space more cozy. Most people tend to try and open their living room up and go for a more spacious look, but it is important to note that this is a matter of choice.

How much one has to spend is another prime consideration when choosing paint colors for living room. In order to avoid a clash of colors that creates disharmony in a room, it is important to note whether the existing furniture will remain or be replaced. If one has limited funds available and plans to keep the existing furniture, the paint choices will be limited to paint colors for living room that match or complement the furniture. If one is replacing the furniture, the paint colors for living room are not limited because one can choose furniture that matches the paint choices to put back into the room.

In most cases, it is best to limit a color scheme to no more than two colors, a main color and a trim color. One exception to this would be if one wanted to focus attention toward a certain wall. Then it would be acceptable to introduce a third, coordinating color for that one wall and paint the rest in the main color scheme chosen for the room.

Many factors go into choosing the paint colors for living room walls. One should ask himself or herself a few questions about what is expected in the finished room to help eliminate color choices and zero in on just the right colors to create the desired space.
